you are precisely my cup of tea

There's a "we're still on LJ" friending meme that's making the rounds, which is great, I'm really happy for y'all and imma let you finish, but...

Friending memes tend to be hit or miss, at least in my experience. You either hit it off really well with people you meet from them or you end up with a bunch of people on your friends list that rarely, if ever, post in their own journals (or post about things you can't really comment on), and maybe comment on your journal once in a blue moon, if you're lucky. In short - some people you get to know pretty well, and some people you go "who is this person again...?"

So let's have a conversation, f-list. Ask me a question about anything from "what is your favorite color" to "what is your headcanon for Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou". I'll answer and ask you a question in return, too :)

What are you reading/watching these days?

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
This anime season I'm watching Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, Recorder to Ransel, and Gintama. I tried watching Zenki Sesshou Symphogear but gave up after the first 15 minutes because of *spoiler*; considering watching Inu x Boku when I get the chance. Western TV-wise, I finished watching Sherlock (the BBC drama, obviously). I also watch Community and NCIS.

Sadly, my novel reading has grinded to a halt. I'm in the middle of reading the first novel of the Gundam Wing Frozen Teardrop series but since I'm at the part about that character I don't care about, I've been putting it to a halt. I lost my copy of Ningen Shikkaku last year and haven't gotten around to ordering a new copy ;_; I also have about 12-14 novel doujinshi that I haven't touched yet so I will probably read those before I get to anything else.

Manga-wise, I regularly read One Piece, Gintama, Sket Dance, Bakuman, Skip Beat!, Kimi ni todoke, Detective Conan. Thanks to my mostly Japanese twitter, I read Hetalia as soon as the author posts an update.

How are the new year resolutions coming along for you? ;)

[identity profile] cal-reflector.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Just started catching up on Gintama now; I consume that series primarily through anime. I'll be following both Danshi Koukousei and Recorder to.

The new Sherlock 3 episode mini series or the old Grenada TV series?

Resolutions: I'm a little behind, but not by too much. You wouldn't happen to know anything about making a good looking webpage/blog?

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite - tend to read the manga and only watch anime episodes of the arcs I liked. I have to say that the voice casting for Gintama is dead-on though; putting aside my blatant Sugita favoritism, I can't imagine anyone else voicing Shinpachi other than Daisuke Sakaguchi, and Sarutobi-chan's seiyuu (whose name escapes me at the moment) is AWESOME for her.

New one. I'll probably pick up the Grenada series later this year in an attempt to fill the void left behind by the ending of the new miniseries.

Good luck! I can't help you with the blog question (my LJ layout is a good indicator of my lack of web aesthetics) but may I ask why you need website help? I'm assuming it has less to do with your personal LJ and more to do with your goal of possibly getting original fiction published/turned into an anime...?

[identity profile] cal-reflector.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Sa-chan's seiyuu is widely admired as one of the best at... um, how to put it, voicing extreme/bonkers/flaming-fujoshi characters. She's the Jim Carrey of female seiyuus. Yuuki Aoi is sometimes considered her "successor."

Yes, the audio is why I prefer the anime version in Gintama's case.

Website/Blog: Yes. The project is moving forward.

Oh, and Bakemonogatari S2, Nisemonogatari.

[identity profile] twistedsheets10.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
So. Let's talk more about your feeling over Sherlock. :)

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Where do I start???? EMOTIONZ, I HAZ THEM

I almost want to read obsessive one sided yandere!Moriarty -> Sherlock fic but ;______; John. I want more BAMF Molly and I want a long fic of how Lestrade dealt with the fallout from Sherlock's "death" (doesn't have to be shippy!) This episode almost (almost!) makes up for Steve Thompson's race fail in The Blind Banker. Hell, all the episodes this season were amazing. I love and hate Mofattiss for trollin'.

Basically, yes to everything. Also, T__________T John.

So, like, are you gonna fic for Sherlock anytime soon, or have you already done so and I just missed it??? Or you could just, you know, talk about another fic of yours that involves a British detective and the people that love him *nudge nudge wink wink*

[identity profile] twistedsheets10.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
YES TO ALL YOU SAID ABOUT SHERLOCK.

I'll let you in on a secret. I already HAVE ficced for BBC Sherlock. All anon, of course. ;)

Ah, that one. Writing Sherlock in any form is hard, hard work. I think your heart and mood have to be in the right place. But yeah, I eventually want to write the rest of that fic, especially the Reichenbach scene and the Empty house one. I have such plaaaans.

[identity profile] kasumicc.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I agree about friending memes being hit or miss. Now in my case, I could overlook the fact that there's people that I see once only to disappear later...my problem is with those that, after getting to know them, make me go like "why, why did I think that friending this person was a good idea >___<". That, or those that you feel they're nice people, but they never really open the door to you making me kinda depressed. Either way, such situations have turned me off friending memes /old woman

...alright, enough of nonsense >>; What light novels have you read? I know of two, but I want to know if there's more

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
DAMN IT LJ ATE MY COMMENT TO YOU.

I can't really say the first one happened to me, but the second one is a definite hell-yes. I shouldn't be talking (I'm sucky at commenting) but it's a little frustrating when you friend someone from a friending meme and even though they seem like a fun person with a cool personality, they a) don't post enough for you to learn anything of real substance about them, or b) they post about stuff that you can't really comment on (fandoms you're unfamiliar with, real life experiences that you can't relate to, etc.). I'd love to have more LJ friends (hell, if I found just one more us/uk fan who has similar tastes in doujinshi that would be a major WIN, although English US/UK fandom is cliquey as hell BUUUUUUUT I'll save that rant for another time) but I've struck out so many times with friending memes that I just gave up on them... Although I've met you and a few other people from friending memes so I can't 100% prove they never work!

Light novel wise: I don't really read light novels? Obviously I've read all of Suzumiya Haruhi and some of Full Metal Panic!, and right now I'm sort of in the middle of the first Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop novel. I own a couple of BL novels from Suzuhara Touko but they're kind of just gathering dust next to my Kimi ni todoke light novels LOL. I would like to read more light novels but I keep getting distracted by novel doujinshi instead LMAO!

Are you watching anything this anime season or are you too busy with school? I feel like the last anime I heard you talk about was Mawaru penguindrum...

[identity profile] kasumicc.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
OMG SOMEONE ELSE WHO AGREES ON THE CLIQUEY THING I think I'm going to cry /sob ;_;
But I hear you on that. Friending memes HAVE worked on me at times so I really shouldn't feel negatively about them. But since their results have been overall more "nay" than "yay" to me, well...^^'

Kimi no Todoke novels? How are they related to the manga? :O

I've failed on mentioning it because of my lack of motivation for posting...but I'm SO into Shakugan no Shana at this moment xD The final season is on air, and I made a bet with my sis (a big fan of it) that I could watch the whole thing and catch up before the final season was over. I must say that I'm doing a great job with it >D and is the reason of why I asked for light novels. I love the work that J.C Stuff is doing, don't get me wrong, but this is a so well built universe that I'm feeling like I'm missing great things by not reading the novel. And only the first two ones are licensed ;_;

Okay, question for you. A Sherlock fan, then? :|a Do you like the books? And how do you feel about the Sherlock movies?

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The cliquey thing always struck me as wtf weird. How do you all know each other if none of you post to LJ?? If it's because of tumblr, then I guess I'll always be on the outskirts of that because I refuse to get a tumblr. I joined twitter thinking that it would be easier to meet people fandom-wise, but all of the new people I've met over there are Japanese XD;;;

They're pretty much a straight up retelling of the original manga for people who don't want to be caught reading manga on the train. The author is well-known for adapting manga into short-story form (or at least that's what the advertising on the cover claims) and she even released a book of short stories in the kimi ni todoke world that are approved by Shiina Karuho (like the story of how Sawako's parents met, or Ayane's childhood lol) but other than that one book, you're not missing anything.

Oh man, Shakugan no Shana! I loved the first season but never got around to watching the subsequent seasons... I heard the second season was just ok but the third one was pretty good? Now I really need to catch up on it XD Was that it for you fandom wise though? No other manga or gaming fandoms you're interested in right now?

Sherlock: I like the books - I read all of them when I was younger but I wouldn't consider myself a Sherlockian, just a casual fan. I like the movies in an "this is amazingly bad but oooooooh pretty men and mindless action!!!!" kind of way...

[identity profile] kasumicc.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always wondered how Japanese people react to you...I mean, you speak japanese and that makes things certainly easier, but don't they feel intimidated with someone that's a foreigner to them? o.o Sure, there's people like Hoshi, but I always considered those to be a rarity...

...there are novels for those who don't want to be caught reading manga?! These publishers sure think on everything x'DDDDDDDD

Well, second season of Shana may feel like a rollercoaster for many people. The most part of the first 10 episodes are nothing but fillers about secondary characters with little plot progression. While I don't mind slice-of-life myself, the lack of progression sure was a bit infuriating to me at times xD And the last two episodes are said to be a made up ending to give closure to the season. For the novel purists, they're inconsistent with the novel and pretty much a mess. Myself, I found them alright, but even I felt that they were kind of unnecessary.
As for the third season, I can't give an opinion yet since I'm just starting it. But comments say that third season's heavy on plot since they have to fit several novels onto it. Therefore, there's no place for fillers making it really good so far xD

Fandoms? That would be it, I think. As I complained on Twitter, I'm finding it difficult to find active Shana communities. Penguindrum, it was a great ride but theorizing and speculation seem to have died as the series ended. And gaming-wise, I'm well into playing Tales of the Abyss, and Zelda: Skyward Sword. But I don't have fandom involvement on those. And I knoooow, I should watch BBC!Sherlock at last xD; I'll probably do so in February...

Ah, I hear you about movie!Sherlock. They're NOTHING like the books, but the tension and the action makes it sooooo entertaining *o*

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The people I've talked to on Twitter get a kick out of it the first time around (although I had one person ask me to describe American high school life LMAO) and so did the people I meet in RL, but the novelty fades away pretty quickly. I mean, I haven't really met anyone fandom-wise that was like OH NOES A GAIJIN but maybe everyone's just being polite? LOL.

The thing with the first season was that I didn't care about Yoshida and I really didn't like Hecate, so I think that what turned me off watching Season 2? I do like action and plot advancement so if that's what's been happening so far in Season 3 then I will just have to sit down and watch everything after all XD;; But yeah, even when I first watched Shana (in like 2006???) the English fandom was really small.

YES WATCH BBC!SHERLOCK!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD I CAN'T RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH *_______________* There are a lot of people that like BBC!Sherlock but dislike the movie - I think if you watch both with an open mind you can enjoy both of them ^___^ Granted there's a lot less explosions and shootouts/fight scenes in BBCSherlock, but the dialogue is sharp and witty and the actors do a great job of portraying the characters XD

[identity profile] kasumicc.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Funny thing about season 2 is that it made me start liking Yoshida (I found her just plainly annoying in season 1). As for Hecate, you won't see much of her in season 2 but in exchange, you'll see a lot of *spoiler*Hecate's sockpuppet*spoiler* so that may be a problem for you xD

I did watch a bit of BBC!Sherlock waaay back in the day, when season 1 was just being aired :|a I don't know what stopped me, though. I think it was the fact that they talk so fast, so I had trouble figuring out what they were saying xD; I'm sure there must be subs around by now, though.

[identity profile] piratelicker.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I promise to head to the post tomorrow so i can post you that LuNami book lol

Don't ask me about the marimo pfffffffffft

So what are your feelings about GatissMycroft?

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-19 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Take your time, lol! Did you read the latest One Piece chapter? XDDD

OK I WON'T ASK BUT DO YOU WATCH GINTAMA AND DID YOU SEE THE MOST RECENT EPISODE WITH THE HOSTS AND THE RETURN OF TOSHI'S LET'S PA~~~~RTY??????

It's complicated? I love Gatiss' take on Mycroft and I actually do sympathize with him as he's portrayed in the series but if I compare him to canon!Mycroft I think they're different? I feel like canon!Mycroft would have cracked the code for Irene's phone much faster and also wouldn't have bothered to interrogate Moriarty because investigative ground work like that is "beneath" him. That being said, Gatiss!Mycroft actually does care about his younger brother and it's nice to see him more humanized. I get why people don't like him, and selling Sherlock out to Moriarty is a dick move, but honestly Sherlock is a difficult asshole (I love him, but he is not a nice person) and pre-John Sherlock probably would have done the same.

So yeah, I like him. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON SCOTT!MORIARTY? I feel like people either love to hate him or just hate him :P

[identity profile] piratelicker.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I posted it! everything costed USD9 :D shall I pm you my paypal add?

Latest OP omgggg Luffy hugging Nami but... it wasnt romantic at all.... ODA YOU TROLLING MEEEEEEEE

YES I DID HE DESERVED EVERY RIB AT HIS VOICE ACTING ROLES LMAOOOOO /punched Actually I was fangirling at Gintoki/Sugita trying to charm the girl in the first part. Otogeppoi? XDDDDD

Mycroft has always been one of my fave characters in the books but I do admit he was a lil dry. That's why I love the BBC vers for giving him more exposure and flaws. HE LOVES HIS BROTHER A LOT THAT KUUDERE LOLOLLOLO(LO(LOL
(I love him, but he is not a nice person) <- yes I do agree with this. I think the same for the original vers too lol. He's not a very social person by Victorian standards. He just have more manners than the modern vers. The modern one eats manners and social tact for breakfast.

BTW I LOVE THE MODERN MORIARTY! PERFECTION! LOL Idk the hate srsly, I think he brings some flavoured chaos into the structured routine Sherlock has built. And let's not forget STAAAYYINGG ALLIIIVVEEEEEEE lololol best scenebreaker ever.

anyway are u playing any games lately?

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-22 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes please, I think you msg'd me it before but I forgot that LJ doesn't save your messages for more than 2 weeks ._.

Haha Gintoki-as-host was amazing... and the live-action Gintoki killed me XDDDDDD

AHHHH HE IS SUCH A KUUDERE LOL
The modern one eats manners and social tact for breakfast. SO TRUE - John, Lestrade, Mrs. Hudson, and Mycroft all have the patience of saints when it comes to dealing with him in public. I would have punched Sherlock in the face if he were my brother and he came to my place of work naked and refused to put on clothes XDDDDD

I LOVE HIM TOO! Idk, he's so fabulous and psycho and he makes a good foil for Sherlock who's usually composed and orderly XDDD AND YES HIS RINGTONE

nope, my second question for you was going to be "can you recommend some games to someone who's a n00b at otome games?" XDDDD

[identity profile] piratelicker.livejournal.com 2012-01-22 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
pm'd you ^3^)b I hope the package gets to you safely!

damn the gintama writers, how do they keep coming up with these jokes? they must be insane XDDD

MYCROFT THE KUUDERE ahiaugdas i think this is why i like Gattiscroft lmao Plus he lets Sherlock walk over him lolol
I think that's why Sherlock knows he can trust them because they're still around even after the shit he pulled on them lololol He knows he's such a handful but yet he makes no effort to be less nasty ;3; Sometimes I feel sorry for them (esp Mrs Hudson/Lestrade... and Molly)

the twist with Richard Brooke was genius~!!!! thanks for making us doubt everything you wonderful bastard!

uh what? lolol your Nihongo is so much better than mine so i think you'd ace more otoges than me XDDDDDD
Tbh, there's not many hard otoges? Because they're basically 'choose the best choice to further the story' games. the ones that has other options beside this are the hard ones and it's quite rare? Like Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side series requires stat-building to win an ending.
But if anyone asks me for reccs, I'll give it based on what your preferences are? e.g. do you like comedy stories or would you like historical based or sci-fi? or do you like the ones with a real LOOONG complicated stories? or sad/setsunai ones? or do you want the ones with your fave voice actors LOL Feel free to tell me what you like ^^

[identity profile] kawaiipinay.livejournal.com 2012-01-22 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
sent :3 thank you for saving a copy for me~

I like happy endings so the setsunai stuff is out... I like plucky/sarcastic heroines if possible. Love comedy over serious (although if the story is really interesting/riveting I don't mind serious). No DV or attempted rape please. And of course, anything with SugiTomo, nontan, or Takahashi Hiroki is a plus XDDDDDDDD

[identity profile] piratelicker.livejournal.com 2012-01-23 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
ah i forgot to ask what consoles do you have? iinm u have a ps2? if you have a psp, you're in luck because a huge glut are on that system.

plucky/sarcastic heroines? this is a rarity since idk the otoge writers have a tendency of serving passive heroines... the only sarcastic one i had experienced so far was Desert Kingdom/Ps2.

games that have plenty of sarcasm (from the cast/plot lol) from what i heard; Kaminaru Kimi to & Amnesia. Although Amnesia's plot can be scary at times.... just avoid Toma.

No DV or attempted rape please. <- just avoid r18 pc games and you'll be fine.

if u want sugita, maybe u should try the Hiiro series http://www.otomate.jp/hiiro_ds/ he's the lead. I cant play this game because this game involves a lot of text and it puts me to sleep LOLOL

or you can try Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3d Story? Sugita and Suwabe are the leads...
http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/Girls_Side/3rd_Story/
this one requires stat bulding but it's not that hard? i mean if i can pull it off with my lousy Jpn LOL

btw all these otoges have plenty of walkthru sites out there like http://otome.girly.jp/

another series that is simple but is famously known for the seiyuu cast is Starry Sky. the plot isnt that unique (high school life) but i play it for the seiyuus mostly lol
http://www.honeybee-cd.com/starry_sky.html
