jiyuuhonpouThis question was kind of hard - technically, I shipped Disney Princesses with their princes when I watched the movies, and I can't remember if I shipped Sailor Moon/Tuxedo Mask when Sailor Moon first came out in America, but I definitely remember watching the 8:30PM premier of this show (aniki and I fought with my mom to let us stay up late for it LOL) and going "I hope they become boyfriend and girlfriend!"
My age is showing, isn't it.
(Why is it so damn hard to find remotely decent quality screencaps for Hey Arnold? I know the show's old but some of the seasons and the movie are definitely out on DVD by now. ;A;)
Even though my 9-year-old self was the diametric opposite of Helga peronality-wise, I totally sympathized with her inability to convey her feelings for the boy she liked, and I totally dug her tsunderetsun monologues about her love-hate for Arnold. And come on, it was cute in a borderline-stalkerish kind of way -- She had a bubblegum statue of the guy as a part of her closeted shrine to him! She wrote volumes (volumes!) of poetry about him! She gave up her Nancy Spumoni boots for his happiness!! If that isn't young love, then I don't know what is.
And the show gave enough hints that, maybe, if Helga was just a little bit nicer to Arnold (or even a little more honest about her feelings), he'd reciprocate those feelings. So even if the AKY ending of the movie makes sense logically (since, you know, they're nine), I'm going to pretend it never happened and Arnold reciprocated that kiss.
